FAQ’s

I've never had a brazilian before will it hurt?

The short answer is yes, it hurts. But, if you have been shaving then you have most likely been in pain every day. Shaving gives you a clean, hairless few minutes before it begins to grow back, then it's immediately prickly then the irritation, redness, razor burn, red bumps and itching begins. With a brazilian it hurts only for a few seconds during the procedure  but then you are totally clean for (most people) about 2 weeks before it begins to grow back finer and with less hair.  Plus, It  gets less painful over time.  If you've never done it before, i'm so excited for you, You will love it.  Once you have tried It you may never shave again.

How long does the hair need to be?

The hair needs to be longer than 1/4 inch long (about as long as a grain of rice) for a clean wax. But the longer the better really. If the hair is longer it will give the wax more to hold onto making a more hairless result. It takes about 2 weeks after shaving for it to be long enough to wax. It takes 4 weeks after waxing for it to be long enough.

I get red bumps & itching with shaving, will I get that from waxing?

Most likely no. Its normal at first for there to be red bumps, but that's your body's histamine reaction to the waxing procedure. It usually subsides within an hour or so. If it persists or if you feel tender put a cold compress on the area and it will most likely calm it right down. Most people don't have to do that though. In-growns can be prevented by keeping the area bacteria free and exfoliating. If you are prone to ingrowns then please let me know so  I can talk to you about treatment during your appointment.

Is there anything I should know or do before my brazilian wax?

  • If you would like, you can take an anti-inflammatory an hour ahead of your appointment.

  • You must be off any kind skin thinning medications like Accutane at least 6 months prior to any kind of waxing.

  • You must not be using any Retinol products

  • You must not be taking antibiotics or any medication that causes photosensitivity. These drugs make the skin "lift" during waxing.

  • You must not tan 24-48 hours before or after any waxing appointment.

  • You must not soak the area before a wax - meaning don't soak in the bath or sit in a hot tub before coming for you wax appointment. Soaking softens the skin too much. But please be sure to be clean before your appointment.

What if its "that time of the month"?

Its not a problem for me as long as you are wearing a fresh tampon. It might be a little more painful for you though. That time of month is sometimes more sensitive for some people. I still do it all the time and it is nothing to be worried about.

Is there anything I need to do after my brazilian?

It's most important to keep the area clean. Removing the hair opens the pores and could make the skin vulnerable to rash or infection. But don't worry, Just be sure keep it clean and dry for 24hours and wear loose clothing. Keeping the skin moist with coconut oil is what I usually recommend because it has antibacterial properties and creates a barrier that protects the skin. The only other thing is exfoliating. It is important to keep the skin strong and free of dead cells. It will help prevent ingrown hairs by freeing them from under the dead skin cells and will help create a better result from your next wax. Wait a few days to exfoliate after your wax though.

How often should I get this done if I want to keep it up?

For most people every 4-6 weeks is best. It takes about 2 weeks for the hair to start coming in and then another 2-4 weeks for it to be long enough to wax again. I would like to add that for most people when you are consistent with their waxing schedule the hair seems to grow back less and less. Some people only come every 2 months and hardly have much hair!
